!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Best quote- "I bet everyone reading this will know 10 times more about the car they want to buy than the person whose job it is to sell it to them."

Just a quick skimming of the article makes me realize that Tesla is way more on to something than we think.

As your car showroom becomes more Ethan Allen than Honest Ed's, those executives might just be forgetting that substance always wins out over style.

A dealer is someone I might know for a few hours if everything goes right. Thats a given. As a dealer, if you greet and talk to me like 1) We've known each other our whole lives 2) You know me as well as a best friend or a spouse would 3) you know more about what I want and am willing to spend more than I do and I should just go along with what you want me to do instead, you will instantly lose my respect for you as a consumer, and consequently have 0% chance at getting any of my money. Obfusticate the true price of the product until the last minutes of the deal for extra slimey salesman points.

Turnover at dealerships is very, very high. More so than almost any other industry. The guy selling you that Hyundai was probably selling Nissans last week, and Jeeps the week before that.

Yup at that is usually part of the problem I encounter with many mainstream dealerships like Toyota and Hyundai. The turnover rate is so high I rarely get a good salesperson. Luxury dealers seem to be better about this.

I dealt briefly with a couple of dealerships recently when I was looking for a car (I ended up buying from a private seller), and I was honestly surprised by how old-school they were — still doing the same routines I remember from my youth...barely able to put up a decent website or communicate online.
